Surroundings

Welcome to Sóller, a picturesque village located on the northwest coast of the island of Mallorca, surrounded by (together with the villages of Fornalutx and Biniaraix) the mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but open to the Mediterranean Sea through its traditional fishing port; a place that invites you to delve into its history, its culture and the nature that surrounds it.

Sóller

The tour of this unique town begins in the main square, the perfect place to have breakfast at any of the plaza’s many terraces before continuing on your way. The square is also home to the Church of San Bartolomé and the Bank of Sóller, two singular buildings that feature modernista architecture. Following the rails that cross the square, we arrive at the railway station, which dates back to the early twentieth century; there, you can board the train to Palma, a trip back in time through the forests and tunnels along the route; you can also visit a permanent Joan Miró exhibition located inside the station.

You can also take Calle de La Luna from the square; this busy, vibrant shopping street is packed with local shops to visit as well as the Can Prunera modernista museum.

Explore the town’s narrow streets and don’t be afraid of getting lost; you’ll always find a local happy to give you directions back to the main square.

And if you want to visit the port of Sóller, take the tram from the plaza, a stunning route through the region’s typical citrus orchards.

Activities

Sóller offers a host of exciting activities, including a visit to the Can Prunera modernista museum, the Museum of Culture, and the Natural and Botanical Sciences museums, located in the same complex.

For more adventurous visitors, the surrounding mountains offer an almost endless list of outstanding hiking and biking trails, while the sea is perfect for diving and other water sports. Tennis and paddle tennis are also available.

Cuisine

You can get a taste of our rich and healthy Mediterranean diet in one of the valley’s many restaurants, which range from typical Mallorcan cuisine to more modern, signature options, fusion, etc. All showcase the region’s outstanding fresh ingredients, such as local fish and the famous Sóller prawns.

Beyond the valley…

While it’s true that Sóller is located in one of the most beautiful spots on the entire island, there are other nearby destinations well worth a visit:

Deià is a magical, charming town, a place known for its bohemian vibe where famous artists (actors, musicians, writers) have found both inspiration and peace. Stroll through its picturesque streets and you’ll discover why…

Valldemossa, the village where famous composer Frédéric Chopin took refuge for a winter and composed some of his works.

If you’re looking to spend time at the beach you have a host of options to choose from, particularly in the southeastern and eastern parts of the island. Grab a map and go exploring…
